Terms of Reference
  • To advise Senate and its committees on such matters of teaching and learning as it may consider appropriate, or as may be referred to it from time to time.
  • To provide a leading forum for the discussion of the teaching and learning environment of the University, including the social and emotional well-being of all involved in the teaching / learning process.
  • To assume responsibility in the evaluation and assessment of the evidence (data) pertaining to teaching and learning practices at the University and provide recommendations for the betterment of such practices on the basis of such evidence.
  • To promote both Senate and University-wide discussion regarding matters of teaching and learning, inclusive of that arising in the research enterprise of the University.
  • To make recommendations, as appropriate, on matters of teaching and learning.
  • To advise and assist the University Librarian generally, and more specifically in:
    • keeping informed about the library needs of students, instructional and research staff, and the public, and in keeping the academic and wider community informed about the Library;
    • responding to the opportunities and challenges presented to the Library by changes in its institutional, technological, and commercial environments;
    • defining the functions of the Library and of library services within the University and wider community, and promoting a clear vision of the Library’s role;
    • ensuring that the Library maintains its capacity to preserve, manage, and develop its collections;
    • securing budgets in support of those goals; and
    • determining the optimal use of Library space and facilities.
  • To make recommendations to the Senate with respect to rules for the management and conduct of the Library.
